Shenandoah River and National Park

Shendoah River & National Park

The majestic Shenandoah River flows close to our Virginia Mountain Cabin Rentals through the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. The Shenandoah National Park is a narrow, long-stretching national park area that has been excellently preserved over the years and encompasses the stunning Shenandoah River and includes regions of more than eight different Virginia Blue Ridge Mountain counties.

Shenandoah River, Virginia

The Shenandoah River VA is a major tributary of the Potomac River and it flows approximately 150 miles through Virginia and West Virginia, creating some stunning spots and scenery. Flowing northeast of the city of Front Royal VA, the Shenandoah River VA passes under I-66 in several sections and meanders through many different counties in the Virginia Mountain region. Featuring many scenic areas to enjoy not only fishing, but tubing, canoeing, kayaking and so much more, the Shenandoah River is a popular river to enjoy while staying in our Virginia Cabin Rentals Luray.

Flowing in a peculiar northwardly fashion, the Shenandoah River VA forms a South Fork at Port Republic in Rockingham County near the confluence of the North River and South River. It follows a very tight course all the way through the Page Valley and the town of Shenandoah Virginia. The North Fork of the Shenandoah originates in Rockingham County in the pristine George Washington National Forest and flows down from the mountains and then across Shenandoah County near the western side of Massanutten Ridge. The greater body of water known as the Shenandoah River is formed at the confluence of these two forks just northeast of Front Royal Virginia.

The Shenandoah River VA is just one of the many natural features of the Shenandoah Valley that make it such a special place to enjoy Virginia Mini Vacations and Virginia Getaway Vacations. It creates wonderful spots to enjoy Shenandoah River Fishing and Shenandoah River Tubing.

Shenandoah National Park

The Shenandoah National Park is a narrow, long-stretching national park area that has been excellently preserved over the years. This wonderfully wild wilderness area encompasses the stunning Shenandoah River and includes regions of more than eight different Virginia Blue Ridge Mountain counties. In our historic county, Page County VA, the Shenandoah National Park, VA includes more than 105 miles near the scenic by-way, the VA Skyline Drive, and one of the largest peaks in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Hawksbill Mountain. Hawksbill Mountain rests at an elevation of 4,050 feet making it the tallest peak in the Shenandoah National Park.

The Shenandoah National Park is renowned for its abundant wildlife and protected flora and fauna. Visit during any season and you can take in all of the scenic beauty that surrounds the park. Animals like white-tailed deer, black bear, bobcats, gray fox, and even some mountain lion roam that park freely and call it their natural home. Special birds like barred owls, Carolina chickadees, Red-tailed hawks, and wild turkeys also call the park home. A group of Peregrine falcons were reintroduced to the Shenandoah National Park, VA, because the wilderness provided the perfect protected lands for the falcons to thrive. Hikers, photographers, and those just looking to escape and getaway are encouraged to explore all that the Shenandoah National Park, VA has to offer near Luray Virginia.

Adjacent to Page County is Madison County Virginia. Visitors to the Shenandoah National Park VA can access the infamous Rapidan Camp, which served as President Herbert Hoover’s fishing camp on the Rapidan River. This stunning area is just a short drive away from our Luray Virginia Cabin Rentals and one of the most famed Virginia Trout Fishing areas in the south.
